Paving Upgrade in Manchester with Resin Surfacing

At Country Groundworks, we feel that the outcome of our projects should be a long-lasting solution that reduces maintenance while enhancing kerb appeal. Resin surfaces are becoming increasingly popular for gardens, and it’s easy to see why. They’re durable, permeable, and provide a clean, modern finish that lasts for years.

Recently, we completed a front and rear garden transformation in Sale, Manchester, installing a resin-bound surface in a beautiful Staffordshire pink finish.

Project Overview

We were contacted by a homeowner in Sale, Manchester, who wanted to modernise their gardens and pathway paving around their property. The existing garden was presentable but just needed a modern touch.

The customer’s main goal was to create a low-maintenance, visually appealing space that would stand the test of time. With our experience in groundworks and resin installations in Manchester and surrounding areas, we recommended a full dig-out and installation of a new, high-quality base topped with a resin finish.

Work Carried Out

Our team visited the property to assess the existing front garden and discuss the customer’s vision. After measuring the area and understanding their requirements, we provided a clear plan and quotation for the work.

Once approved, we scheduled the project and arranged all necessary materials, including the chosen Staffordshire pink resin.

Digging Out the Front Garden

The first stage of the project involved a full excavation of the existing front garden. We removed all old surfaces, debris, and unsuitable ground to create a clean slate.

This step is crucial, as a solid foundation ensures the longevity and durability of the finished surface. We carefully dug down to the required depth, making sure there was sufficient space for the new sub-base and surface layers.

Digging Out the Garden

The first stage of the project involved a full excavation of the existing paving. We removed all the old paving ready for the new stones to go down.

This step is crucial, as a solid foundation ensures the longevity and durability of the finished surface. We carefully dug down to the required depth, making sure there was sufficient space for the new sub-base and surface layers.

With the area excavated, we moved on to installing a strong hardcore sub-base. This layer provides the structural support needed for the entire installation.

We spread and levelled the hardcore across the area before compacting it thoroughly using specialist machinery. Taking the time to properly compact this layer ensures there are no weak spots and helps prevent future movement or sinking.

We also ensured the correct levels and a slight gradient were maintained to allow effective water runoff.

Laying the Tarmac Base

Once the hardcore base was complete, we installed a smooth tarmac layer over the top. This creates the ideal surface for applying resin, providing both strength and flexibility.

The tarmac was carefully laid and levelled to achieve a consistent finish across the entire area. This stage is essential for ensuring the resin bonds correctly and delivers a flawless final appearance.

Laying Paving Slabs

Before the final surface was installed, we prepared and laid paving slabs to create a solid and level working area. We cut and laid the slabs in a pattern that the customer had picked. We placed a border of brick edging around the lawn area of the garden to keep the edges tidy. This stage involved carefully positioning each slab on a suitable base, ensuring consistent spacing and alignment throughout.

Each slab was checked for level and adjusted where necessary to eliminate any uneven spots to make sure the walkways were safe. We also maintained the correct fall across the surface to allow for proper drainage, preventing any water from pooling once the project was complete.

Different finishes are available for our paving slab installations across Cheshire and the surrounding areas.

Applying the Staffordshire Pink Resin

Once the paving slabs were laid in place and the sub-base was already primed, we could look to pour the Staffordshire pink resin. The customer requested this Staffordshire Pink Resin as it gives a nice durable, and permeable surface, combining angular quartz gravel (pinks, browns, and purples) with a polyurethane resin. The benefit of this is that it holds the granite in place, decorating the edge of the path and patio. We then spread the mixture onto the surface and levelled it to give an even finish. We then allowed time for the resin to dry, picking a day with nice weather for this process.

The Finished Result

The result is a stunning and low-maintenance finish that significantly enhances the property’s kerb appeal. The Staffordshire pink finish adds warmth and character to the new paving slabs that cover the back garden and pathways. The homeowner was delighted with the upgrade, now enjoying a practical and visually striking space that requires minimal upkeep.
